Markets in Florence

One of the things I was really looking forward to in Florence was visiting the markets, and buying back food to bring home to Singapore. The problem with being a tourist is that it's really difficult to think of cooking - if you even have a kitchen, that is, since everything comes in sizes that are much too large - like cooking oil, salt, and spices, and it's hard to come to terms with deciding whether to leave things behind or packing them into your suitcase.

We visited 2 markets; the Sant'Ambrogio market, and the Mercato Centrale. The first is slightly less touristy, with shoppers who looked like locals buying food for their daily needs. Everything looked amazingly fresh.

Cheese shop where we really wanted to buy stuff but everything looked too intimidatingly large.

Check out those porcini mushrooms larger than grapefruit. We did, however, buy some blood oranges.

Prosciutto heaven. We managed to buy pack 2 packs of sliced ham and a salami, all vacuum packed and sealed.

It was so tempting - if only we had a kitchen.

The husband also did not allow me to buy any pecorino cheese.

Things just starting up at the Mercato Centrale - this was taken at around 8 in the morning.

Love the colours of the fruits and veggies

The raw bistecca was huge.

Porcini shop - the fresh ones had caps almost as large as rockmelons.
