Marutama Ramen

This is probably the 3rd ramen shop I've tried in 2 weeks, and had been pigging out at Menya Shinchan a few times last month before starting this blog. Marutama Ramen, however, is quite different from the other shops (Ramen Santouka and Bishamon Ramen) in that they use a simple chicken soup base, without the myriad of options of shoyu, shio and miso. It's either spicy or non-spicy. And they don't have any of that collagen stuff either, making it a bit less mind-boggling.

What they do have, howver, is really good side dishes and stuff to add to your ramen. The ni-tamago (they call it Ajitsuke tamago here) is to-die-for, the char siu is really yummy and the lemon brings out the flavour of the soup even more beautifully.

During a weekday lunch, we ordered 2 side dishes of yaki char siu ($6) and dashitamago omelette ($8). They were really delicious. The yaki char siu was grilled such that the edges had a slight crisp, but with the fat still lingering making it nice and juicy.

The dashitamago omelette was, frankly, just normal tamago yaki with a fancier name. But it was nice with the grated daikon.

The normal chicken ramen ($12) with an extra egg. They also give you sesame seeds and fried garlic bits to add to the soup.

Even though their business hours state 11.30am-10.00pm on their card, I've been turned away at 9pm before. So get there early to avoid the queue and to ensure you can still get your ramen fix.
