New Year's Day at Denny's

With such a huge dinner the night before, we slept in real late on New Year's Day. And woke up wondering what to do. The BIL hit on the idea of going for a bike ride since the weather was great and the roads were likely to be empty. So off we went, towards the Imperial Palace which was about 5km from the house. There was almost no one on the roads at all - very strange for Tokyo.

Between the Imperial Palace and Ginza

Stopping by the Tokyo Tower on the ride back home

After all the cycling, we were starving. There weren't many options on New Year's Day since most of the restaurants were closed. However, the trusty Denny's near Tokyo Midtown was 5 mins drive away, had free parking, and most importantly, was open.

Their menu comes with the number of calories each meal has.

They serve a mixture of both western and Japanese food.

As well as Japanese pastas.

The nephew wanted a steak - which was fairly average.

The husband had this egg-covered fried rice, which was quite nice.

The BIL had the fried kaki set

And I had the mentaiko pasta.

Very nicely done : )

The dessert that the nephew ordered - pretty but nothing much to crow about

The husband had a chocolate pudding

I had this traditional Japanese dessert with mochi balls, red beans and ice cream. This was not too bad at all.

We sat there for almost 2 hours eating and playing Singaporean Taboo (how do you describe Chiam See Tong without saying Potong Pasir?!) until it was dark. It was a lovely day : ) And it was about to get better...since we were headed to the onsen!
