The old office recently had a department dinner at Bumbu Restaurant at Kandahar Street to celebrate a fairly big milestone. Kampong Glam is a great place to go to at night, with lots of people on the streets and a warm, laid-back feel. We were seated on the second storey of the shophouse. Although Bumbu is meant to serve Thai and Indonesian food, the interioir is extremely local, with pintu pagars, carved screens and old embossed mirrors used to decorate the room.
Pomelo salad
Mango salad
Baby squid
Beef rendang
Sambal kangkong
Tauhu telor
Thai fish
Brinjal, which was coated in batter and fried
Thai curry chicken. It was almost impossible to find the chicken. We had to scoop really hard before we finally found one piece (pictured below)
Dessert: avocado with gula melaka...this was the best dish : )
My final rating in this very silent post is that there is nothing compelling that would make me specially go back to Bumbu, but I wouldn't mind eating there if there was another office lunch/dinner, or if I was with Muslim friends and we wanted to find a nicer air-conditioned place to eat around Kampong Glam.
