Teochew Porridge Buffet

For $8.80++ per person at the NUS Guild House!! There was an amazing spread of food...including all the braised tow yew stuff (duck, pork, eggs, intestines, pig skin, tau pok etc), fried stuff (omelette, har cheong kai), other cooked stuff (ma po tau fu, minced pork, sotong, fishcake) and all the traditional sauces and condiments.

There were also 5 ala carte dishes served as part of the buffet, including fried tou miau with garlic, fried french beans with shrimp, sambal lady's fingers.

The place was packed when we got there at 8pm and we had to wait about 20 mins for a table.

Salty unhealthy stuff to add to the porridge:

The braised meats with tao yew station: duck, intestines, pig skin, tau pok, eggs and pork!

Close up of the intestines for you innards fans out there:
The other braised stuff: peanuts, mui choy, chicken feet, beancurd skin (sorry you can't really see the food in these pics):

The sauces, plus other stuff:

What we started with: clams in sambal, braised duck, and ma po to fu:

Salted eggs: full of cholestrol and sodium, but absolutely divine with teochew muay:

Pig trotters: braised in dark soy sauce and stewed for what must have been hours...it was wonderfully soft and sweet.

I regret not taking more photos of the rest of the food because I was so busy eating. If you're a NUSS member, this promotion is only on for Monday to Thursday nights (check out their website here). I think it's supposed to be valid only for the month of June, because in July, they're having a bak kut teh/kuay chap buffet which I'm looking forward to as well. Now, if only I was a NUSS member.

(clarification: this is not a paid advertisement for NUSS)
