Liang Kee

We were at Liang Kee Restaurant at Whampoa West one Sunday night for dinner. The MIL is Teochew, and we all love Teochew food, so it was a natural choice when we were craving something hearty and yummy. There's a long drawn saga behind the restaurant which can be read here, but that's not very important to me as long as the food as good.

It was 7.30pm. We made reservations, and this was where we ended up: on the five-foot way. (Note to LTA and URA officers: this is not intended as a complaint so don't take this as feedback and proceed to enthusiastically carry out reinforcement for obstruction of public walkways.)

The hae choh was lovely. Deep fried to perfection, it was crispy on the outside and the combination of minced meat and veggies was just right.

The oyster omelette was fluffy, soft and the oysters were absolutely fresh. It came with a very good sambal chilli sauce.

The steamed promfret - the hallmark of a good Teochew restaurant - was cooked to perfection. The combination of flavours from the extremely fresh fish, dried mushroom, the sour plum, the salted vegetables, etc, was unbelievable. We licked up every last drop after demolishing the fish.

Another view.

The tofu with minced pork went so nicely with steamed rice.

Or nee without coconut milk - a most authentic version. The MIL was very pleased.

The bill for 5 people came up to around $120, which we were very happy to pay given the good quality.
